Her League 2020-2024 | Coach Zara is currently a senior at the Spence School in NYC. Her father was her first introduction to chess, as he was the one who taught her how to play at a basic level. Her next exposure came while she was in third grade when she played chess with adults in Washington Square Park who encouraged her to take up chess more seriously. Zara joined her elementary school team and started participating in city, state and national tournaments.
Zara has been involved with Her Move Next since her freshman year of high school. She is a coach at Her League tournaments and a writer for Her News. Additionally, she recently became managing editor of Her News where she works closely with writers to publish articles.
Alongside chess, Zara enjoys playing tennis, doing Taekwondo, and creating art. At school, she is a member of the Varsity Tennis team, the school newspaper, an affinity group for MENA (Middle Eastern, North African, and Muslim) students, and an Independent Science Research program.
