Bhavya Thakur is a 12 year old rising 7th grader who will be attending the Anderson School for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.
Bhavya’s chess journey started when she was in kindergarten and the journey has only grown stronger over the last 8 years.
Her various chess accomplishments include tying for second place nationally in the USCF All-Girls National Chess Championship in 2018, achieving perfect scores in several dozens of competitions, and winning various citywide tournaments. When Bhavya was just 9 years old, she had already reached a rating of USCF 1500+ and was the 12th best girl her age in the country. She has attended 120+ tournaments including World Open in Philadelphia, the All-Girls National Championship in Chicago, the NY State Championship and the US National Championship, Nashville
During the pandemic, she helped coach her friends and family across the globe via zoom lessons.
Bhavya has several accomplishments outside of chess. She is an entrepreneur at heart and when she was 10, she launched her first business with her twin brother and friends. The business received funding dollars from the Netflix founder Marc Randolph.
Other accomplishments include being a captain of her quiz team that has won top spots in trivia competitions and was one of the youngest team qualifying for the Nationals, 2022 in Chicago.
She also loves to debate and placed 5th in individual championship in the 2022 New York State Debate Championship. She has a love for Math and theatre and has starred in her school’s theatrical production in spring of 22.
As part of her entrepreneurial club, she has been invited to speak in online forums to empower fellow girls to boost their involvement in STEM and to help disrupt gender stereotypes, a subject close to her heart and what she is passionate about.
