A game of chess, in which minds reach far

A checkered realm in which two spar

One leaving the other a superstar

Some may call this game bizarre

But it holds a beauty like that of mars

Both are playing fields that we claim to be ours

Enticing players to think beyond and search afar

Some games end in a tie

An intensity between two pairs of eyes

A kind that can lead to a collision in the sky

8 squares on each side

64 paths we must abide by

Kings, staying hidden and away from the possible stings

Rooks, they glide, leaving rows and files shook

Knights, wondering upon a winding path of their choice, much like kites.

Bishops, leading ambitious diagonals

Queens, they intervene, often leaving those around them in “a scene”

Pawns, they line up to form a gate

All, affecting the fate of who will

Checkmate.
